Based on the bestselling novel by Claire Keegan, Small Things Like These is set in 1980s Ireland. In the small port town where coal merchant Bill Furlong lives, daily life is dominated by the Catholic Church. While Furlong works hard to support his family, he uncovers disturbing secrets at a reformatory run by the Catholic Magdalene Sisters, led by Sister Mary. There, so-called “fallen” women and girls are exploited and abused in the laundries. These revelations force Furlong to confront his own past and compel him to break his silence.
