Directed by the iconic Orson Welles, who also wrote the screenplay, The Trial is a literary and visually daring adaptation of Franz Kafka’s eponymous 1925 novel: a story about guilt without accusation, bureaucracy, and existential confusion. In the lead role, we see Anthony Perkins as Josef K., a man suddenly accused of an unspecified crime and trapped in a labyrinth of legal procedures and intimidating figures of authority.

This screening is presented in collaboration with the Kafka Kring on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the release Franz Kafka’s last book: Der Prozess. With an introduction by Niels Bokhove.

Omschrijving

Josef K wakes up in the morning and finds the police in his room. They tell him that he is on trial but nobody tells him what he is accused of. In order to find out about the reason of this accusation and to protest his innocence, he tries to look behind the facade of the judicial system. But since this remains fruitless, there seems to be no chance for him to escape from this Kafkaesque nightmare.
